Starting a company is a great thing to do, especially in a climate where there are fewer conventional jobs but you have the skills or an idea that you think will make the basis of a good business.
However well you have thought things through, and however fantastic your business idea, there are bound to be times when you need some advice. With the reorganisation of government programmes over the last few years it can be confusing to know where to go for help and support. Here are a few of our suggestions:
- GOV.UK - first port of call for advice on things like health and safety, employment and payroll compliance, as well as numerous other issues.
- Smarta, Enterprise Nation, Federation of Small Businesses, British Chambers of Commerce - resources for anyone starting and running a small business with on-line guides, advice and practical help.
- Startup Britain is the national campaign of events and inspiration aimed to help people who are starting businesses.
- Malvern Hills District Council (if you are based in Malvern), Worcestershire Business Central (if you are based in Worcestershire) or Herefordshire County Council (if you are located in Herefordshire). You will be able to find details of support, advice and grants on these websites or by talking directly with them.
- Malvern Small Business Forum meets once a month and is a useful event to network with local business owners and hear their experiences.
